Poem for Potuterangi

Some years ago, I wrote this to celebrate Potuterangi, the Maori name for Autumn Equinox.

Poem for Potuterangi

Poututerangi, Autumn Equinox

Time of transition

Moving from one state to another

No passport needed or inoculations

Only intention

Intention’s the ticket.

Poututerangi, Autumn Equinox

Time of harvesting and working

To access the juice of what’s hidden

Just skin-deep

Or as deep as you want to go

As deep as underworld

Otherworld.

Poututerangi, Autumn Equinox

Time of balance when the breath is held

For a moment on the spiral

From seeding to fruiting

And onwards

Onwards and ever upwards

Vintage spiralling on vintage in

The Ascending of the Grapes.

Cheers, Everybody !
